Beyond Digitals: The Case for Printing Your Images

“We only want digital images.”

As sobering as it may be, your printed photos will one day be among the few things that your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will have of you.

As a Professional Photographer and a Mother, I am a huge proponent of printing my clients’ photos for a variety of reasons.

First is that digital memory is easily lost. This is something that many have learned the hard way in the past: misplaced hard drives, corrupted computers, and lost phones happen and may be the only place that your memories are stored. Those digital images will be lost forever. That is why you need a non-digital safeguard — prints! I recommend that you get all of your images printed as at least 5 x 7s.

Even if you have your digital data backed in multiple locations, you can’t touch it. You can’t feel it. You can’t pass it around at a family gathering for enjoy together. Albums give you a sentimental tactile experience that everyone deserves. Turning each page with your hands, one by one, and smiling with your spouse about days gone by — there’s nothing better!

Lastly prints make great gifts. Grandmothers, Aunts, and Uncles truly appreciate being gifted prints of your family. After my mother-in-law passed away, the family portrait that we had gifted her was passed along to us and now sits in our dining room. We are reminded of how much she loved our family every time we look at that canvas print. Digital images cannot give you that experience.

Prints:

Prints are available in a wide variety of sizes and finishes. My personal favorites are matted deckled edge prints in 8 x 10″ size, delivered in a clamshell box for safe keeping.

Wall Art & Canvases:

Framed prints and canvases are available for any single image or as a collection. My favorite canvas sizes are 20 x 30″ and 30 x 40″, while 11 x 14″ prints matted and framed to larger finished sizes also make a beautiful statement.
